Continue Playing After Fallout 4 Ending
How to continue playing after ending?
Can someone tell me how I can continue playing Fallout: New Vegas after beating the game? It goes to credits. Then goes to Title Screen. I choose "Continue" and it puts me back at my last save points before beating the game. Can't I continue playing the game even after beating the main storyline so I can continue discovering and doing side quests, and also when DLC is available, playing DLC?
Am I doing something wrong? How can I continue playing after end game?

The game doesn't have an open ending. Before the final mission you were given a warning that you were entering the finale, if you want to use the character to explore other side-quests or DLC you'll have to load a save from before this point.

I expect this thread to go very similar to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1131035-how-to-play-after-the-end/page__hl__continue%20playing%20after.

The DLC will be out on December 21, 2010. I think Fallout 3 was also like where the game ended and you couldn't play on after completing the main quest, that was until the DLC packs came out. Normally what I would do in playing a game like this is to explore areas that I found interesting, and do as many side quests as I wanted before hitting the actual main quest.

they say they dont want to have a open ending for a main quest so you cant continuing playing after the final boss. Is something like FO1 and 2 that why you get told and get a auto save when you going to face the last boss
So i recomend you to explore all when you doing the main quest; im still didnt come to the trip and i almos level 21 since i explore evry interested place i see in the mini map

Game tells you when you hit the point of no return. When you get there just hold off committing to the final battle and make a hard save right there.
I was able to get 118 hours out of my first playthrough and still had several hours worth of stuff to do. To get the other endings under my belt it'll take another 200ish hours of playing on another 3 characters.

There will not be a continuation DLC. There are too many, too different, ways for the game to end, for them to make a "continuation" that makes sense (unless they made a DLC as big as a whole game expansion or sequel).

Step 1: Install PC version of game onto PC
Step 2: Download user-made "play on after the ending" mod
Step 3: Install player-made mod
Step 4: Enjoy

I'll bite, what's step 3?
On topic, you can start a new game and choose a new route through it. This will allow you to play and find new quests, and explore more with more to see and do.

I'm sure this was a topic meant to incite flaming, but I'll bite. There is no way to continue after you beat the game. There is a pop-up that warns you before you get to the point of no return though, and hopefully you didn't just skip through it.
It is too bad that Obsidian (and Bethesda) didn't learn from Fallout 3.

I have seen both sides to this.....
But normally games have an ending, yes thats right once you COMPLETE them thats it.......
But then again im playing on the PC so it isnt rearly an issue!
They also stated many many many times that there was an ending......
Sorry, but thats it!

Doesn't make sense that you would be able to continue doing sidequests after the conflict has been resolved. I mean you could probably do quests for third party factins, but why work for the Legion when NCR has already won?

Honestly, with the way the end-sequence of the game seems to either resolve or destroy your relationship with many of the other factions (especially three of the other main ones), I'm not sure why you'd even want to continue (with the PC mod, that is - just adventuring in a nonsense world post-slides).... many of the remaining quests must be locked out, all sorts of people must be hostile to you, etc, etc, etc. It's not like FO3 where nothing really important happens.

Thanks for all the help. Yeah I guess the story is different from Fallout 3, and continuing on wouldn't make much sense.
Yes Man tricked me into ending the game...damn him....damn him to robot hell!
And I apologize for posting on something that has already been posted. I guess I should've figured others had the same question I did at the end of the game.

http://www.theengineeringguild.co.uk/ the famous Oblivion/Fallout3 quest-modder has been talking about this whole situation, with the endings...
(I remember playing FO3 past the ending with his continue-game mod, long before the DLC for that game was released.)
But he's not sure in which direction they're going to go with this game's DLC!
Spoiler
So it's challenging for him to write his mod(s).
Like - suppose The Legion was victorious in your game...?
So instead of 1 mod you'd need to do maybe 3.
He has already done a join-the-NCR mod, now he's talking about something for the YesMan players that will allow you to run Vegas after the game ends...
Anyway, I wonder how the official DLC will continue the game, or will it? Do we know that for sure?

Starting over is a good way to play after the ending, it always works.

Only thing we know for sure is that the folks at Obsidian have said several times that the end of the game is the end, it was intended to be the end, and it will remain the end.

 Win.
